In late January 2010, Analog Devices introduced two interesting chips, the ADuC7023 and the ADuC7122. The press announcement noted the suitability of these devices for digital diagnostics in optical transceivers and modules based on both fixed and tunable frequency lasers.
But anyone who designs equipment that must sample several analog signals and also produce several analog outputs should take a look at these "precision analog microcontrollers." Both provide an, ARM7 TDMI processor with as many as 126 kbytes of flash memory. The twelve succesive-approximation ADCs and twelve DACs offer 12-bit resolution and engineers will also find several general-purpose 8-bit digital I/O ports that share some functions with SPI, JTAG, I2C, interrupt-request, PWM, and other digital data and control signals. Two of the analog inputs include a programmable-gain amplifier with a gain that can range from 1 up to 5.
The ADuC7122 processor core operates at 41.78 MHz and includes 8 kbytes of SRAM and 128 kbytes of EEPROM. ADuC7023 Analog Microcontroller offers 8 kbytes of SRAM and 62 kbytes of EEPROM.
